A PETROL station has lifted its cap on fuel as supplies start flowing again.

Esso Petrol Station in Little Lever said it ran dry one afternoon during the rush to fill up tanks over the weekend but is now back to normal.

The petrol station manager told The Bolton News: "We have plenty of petrol.

"We did limit people to £30 of petrol, but we are not limiting them at the moment as we have lots of fuel and have more coming in.

"I don't know why people are struggling.

"I plan ahead on all my deliveries."

But the petrol station is prioritising fuel for key workers, nurses, doctors and healthcare workers.

The manager says he is not selling any additional fuel in petrol cans after witnessing the chaos that has caused.

Other petrol stations in Bolton have been left dry following the huge surge in demand caused by panic buying.

Shell at Grafton Service Station on Chorley Old Road currently has no fuel.

The petrol forecourt cashier said: "We ran out of fuel yesterday. We previously put a £35 limit on the amount of petrol people could buy."

Petrol stations across the UK are still being hit by shortages.

The Chairman of the Petrol Retailers Association (PRA), Brian Madderson, told BBC Radio 4’s Today show that "disappointingly" drivers are continuing to panic buy fuel.

He said: "As soon as a tanker arrives at a filling station, people on social media are advising that a tanker has arrived and then it is like bees to a honey pot.

"Everyone flocks there and... within a few hours it is out again."

Mr Madderson continued: "It is panic buying when you go to fill up your car to the entirety of its tank capacity which you wouldn’t normally do.

"The average fill up across the UK is about £25 worth.

"We have seen people filling up to £100 worth where they can."
