PROVO, Utah — A woman was rescued by North Fork Fire Department from Provo Canyon Sunday after cliffing out while hiking.

Utah County Sheriff Spencer Cannon confirmed that the hiker was stuck on Mount Timpanogos near the Aspen Grove Trailhead.

According to a Facebook post from North Fork Fire Department, the hiker had slipped on ice and slid down an ice-covered scree field. Following this, she held onto a rock and “cliffed out.”

North Fork Fire Department said responders were able to hoist the hiker out and bring her to a command post. Here she was met with an ambulance and received treatment for hypothermia and some minor injuries.

The hiker was released from the scene after receiving treatment for her injuries. The operation lasted a total of 2.5 hours.
