As India celebrates its 75th anniversary of its independence, I am very happy to raise the flag as Chief Minister."

"I take this opportunity to review that the former Tamil Nadu CM Karunanidhi won the opportunity for the Chief Minister to raise the national flag on Independence Day by making recommendations before the then Prime Minister of Indira Gandhi. Not only for Tamil Nadu CM, He also provided opportunities for all chief ministers of the country," he said.

In addition, Stalin emphasized the important centenary celebration in 2021: “This is the centenary when Mahatma Gandhi came to Madurai and decided to change his dress to loincloth after seeing the plight of people. This is the birthday of VO Chidambaranar. The 150th anniversary, also known as the Tamil helmsman, played an important role in the freedom struggle. This is the 100th anniversary of the freedom fighter Mahakavi Bharathi. So this year is an important year."

Subsequently, the Chief Minister unveiled the memorial column and mentioned that the monument is a memorial to all freedom fighters who played an important role in the freedom struggle, and mentioned the names of some freedom fighters, including Tirupur Kumaran and Vijayalak Captain Shimi and Viru Naqiyar.
