HERMITAGE – This past year marked our 35th year in business. G.W. Becker Inc. has been a single source provider of overhead crane related products and services throughout North America since 1980. We are extremely proud of our accomplishment during the past year and are optimistic about the future of our organization. In 2015, we invested in our people, product and process leading to growth of our customer base, geographic market expansion, and development of a new ecommerce store.

Design, manufacture and installation are three essential elements of our success. In 2015, we completed a large multi-crane, turnkey project consisting of 28 total cranes with runway structure, runway electrification, and rail for a manufacturer of large titanium and super alloy forgings for the aerospace and power generation markets that is establishing a new facility in South Carolina.  This project involved overhead cranes ranging from 2 to 15 tons and spans up to 100 feet.

Another contract last year was for a new custom built 15-ton electric overhead traveling crane from a large primary steel producer in Canton, Ohio. This successfully completed crane project was part of an expansion project for the customer’s new Advanced Quench and Temper Facility. G.W. Becker designed and manufactured this high-speed, top-running double girder, 4-motion overhead crane, which had dual 7½ ton capacity hoists on 8-foot hook centers, 96-foot span and 46-foot available lift.

In addition to engineering new systems, G.W. Becker offers refurbish and upgrade capabilities, to include re-spanning existing cranes being repurposed. A turnkey project last year entailed removal an existing 200-ton overhead crane from a customer’s facility in Ohio, transporting to our facility where we shortened the span of the crane by 10 feet, modified the end notch of the bridge girders to gain 9 inches of headroom, and installed eight new wheel assemblies designed for direct replacement. After modifications, the unit was installed at the customer’s Eastern Pennsylvania facility.

Oil and gas and power generation industries were prosperous with several orders for specialized overhead cranes. We completed the design and manufacture of a 50/15 ton, 105-foot span, overhead crane that will be installed in a power plant in Massachusetts. This efficient and flexible facility will house a state-of-the-art combined-cycle gas turbine that will replace existing coal- and oil-fired generating equipment. We also supplied several compressor-building maintenance overhead cranes, which required explosion proof and spark resistant components.

We expanded our footprint into the dredging sector with two key projects for a manufacturer of dredging equipment. We designed and built a new 25-ton-capacity, deck-mount hoist designed that is mounted on an 8-cubic-yard tilt-boom-style dredge. The outdoor-duty unit was designed for continuous severe-duty specifications. We also provided engineering design services for a new dredge structure in California to collect aggregate at depths up to 200 feet by twin 50-ton capacity trolley hoists with 16-cubic-yard buckets. The runway structure is 50 feet above the pontoon deck with an overall length of 180 feet and 25-foot-long cantilevers on each end. We worked closely in conjunction with the dredge manufacturer and their nautical engineers to coordinate a seamless project.

G.W. Becker continues to promote our pre-engineered line of crane components; a product family of trolley hoists with capacities up to 75 tons and end trucks with wheel dimensions ranging from 9 to 18 inches in diameter. These components are marketed to end users and regional crane manufacturers.

We expanded our online presence in 2015. Our recently modernized corporate website, www.gwbcrane.com, showcases the breadth of our capabilities and provides information on overhead crane related topics. In September, we launched an ecommerce website. This new sales channel provides a platform for selling crane kits, hoist, hoist parts and used/surplus equipment. This venture has expanded our customer base and reach throughout the United States. We also expanded our online marketing through the use of social media, actively communicating our company news and events online via LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and YouTube.

Our commitment to our employees is to provide a safe, fair, and diverse employment environment with growth opportunity in which any employee can develop and work toward achieving both personal and professional goals. We continue to invest in education and training with 958 hours spent in training for 2015.

Our employees are a key competitive advantage and the driver of how we deliver value to our customers. Like most prosperous businesses, our enthusiastic, highly skilled staff of professionals have been instrumental to our success by providing excellent customer service and providing quality products and services.
