The rivals of the 2021-22 Mets and the Pittsburgh Penguins may look like Adams or Norris in the 1980s. Teams with cap space and playoff aspirations noticed the tough guy Tom Wilson of the Washington Capitals team. Although the fans were crazy that Wilson basically bullied other teams last season, it worked. He lashed out at the entire New York Rangers, but they did not respond, even assaulting the Boston Bruins.

The team is responding, but the Penguins are not.

All this is to defend Wilson, who single-handedly defeated the Rangers last season. Although the team denies that it will affect them, as the fans say it shouldn't, but it does. We live in a world of zero tolerance schools and helicopter parents, because bullying and fighting can have an impact.

This is equally important in team sports. There is no effect on bullying, only if you win, there will be rewards.

Metro Division's general managers are taking anti-Wilson protection measures. It is no coincidence that many Metro Division teams have added tough players, some of which are known for boxing skills rather than hockey-formerly known as thugs.

*The Rangers played the NHL market for Ryan Reeves and signed a two-year contract with guard Jared Tinodi.

*The Columbus Blue Jackets signed a four-year contract with Sean Curali and just signed a two-way contract with Zac Rinaldo.

*Philadelphia renewed Samuel Morin's contract for another year, and then traded with Rasmus Ristolainen (heavy stamina) and Cam Atkinson (tenacious, not a fighter).

*No one knows what the islanders did or will do, but Casey Chikas, Matt Martin, and Carl Krattback are likely to return.

In addition, the Carolina Hurricanes added defensive player Brendan Smith, who became a resident soldier of the Rangers last season. Smith played five games last season, one of which was against Wilson.

I think the Pittsburgh Penguins will score in strong games, averaging one-fifth. Maybe Eric Goodbranson made a lasting impression on Brian Dumulin's fighting class in the spring of 2019?

With the victory of the Penguins in the Stanley Cup in 2016 and 2017, the NHL’s evolution from a fighting game to a skating game reached a climax. The team must keep up. It seems that overnight, young players who can skate replace old players who can't skate. Most teams become faster, and faster.

Then resilience made a comeback, especially on defense. The Tampa Bay Chargers and Montreal Canadiens have strong defensive players and they play for the Stanley Cup.

The New York Rangers were still stinged by the imitation of Tom Wilson's Rowdy Roddy Piper. They captured the biggest "sheriff" who was willing to handle border justice.

Look, I can already hear the voices of Penguin fans. But they can't play hockey! But score points on power play, this will show them! But hockey shouldn't be thugs and fights! But, but...but...

The subway sector is undergoing another transformation. The Washington Capitals team plays a leading role in this new evolution. Wilson is an excellent penalty killer. He can score more than 20 goals with both hands and can also dent his cheekbones. The bad boy of the Washington Capitals team was suspended for sending Boston guard Brandon Carlo (Brandon Carlo) maliciously into the hospital or boarding a plane.

Tinordi basically ended the season of Penguin center Evgeni Malkin, who hit the ball on the ice. He also knows how to throw gloves. Sean Kuraly will become Columbus's three-wire or four-wire grinder. Before he was called to the Boston Bruins, he participated in a series of AHL games. He worked hard to break the Bruins' lineup, but there is no doubt that he is a tough player.

Flyers also took a step back to the Broadstreet bullies through multiple acquisitions of scarred players.

The Penguins lost the tenacious grinder Brandon Tanev and replaced him with Brock McGinn through free agency. However. McGinn has played four games in the past five years. This is not a knock on the door, but an admission that McGinn will not be the player to answer the phone.

If you consider future trades and downgrades, the Penguins have about $1.6 million in salary space. General Manager Ron Hextall also safely has enough money to sign more free agents or acquire players, as well as a small salary. But the Penguins' lineup took a step backwards in talent and toughness.

The subway department is taking measures to make improvements. The team in the subway is getting tougher and tougher.

You don’t think other subway teams will easily deal with the Penguins, because the Penguins have always been good guys, do they? The Penguins have about six weeks.

PHN Penguins post-match summary: Pens won 1-0, How & the Who from PPG

I can't understand the Pens fans who think we don't need to increase size and toughness. This is a good article that shows our position in the subway. If we don't get Good Branson, we will be bullied and beaten, and we will not be able to make the playoffs, but we will be one again and finish. Listen to all the Ice Capade fans you need to check reality! ! !

Even with Guddy, they can't make the playoffs. This team is in a downward trend, and nothing can stop it next season. Take medicine and take higher pictures.

Fans often associate tenacity with fighting. Hockey is still largely a game of intimidation. Border hits have a greater impact. If a team realizes that they have a physical advantage, they are more likely to achieve the above goals. The team does not want top players to be targeted. They are very confident to pass the pain to the Pens players because they realize that there is no deterrent. It is no coincidence that the Penn team's losses in the men's games are always close to the league's top spot.

In the past 4-6 years, this team has been like this. They don't have the toughness of the team. They are very soft on D... In the front, the star players are beaten, beaten, and verbally abused in every game. Because of all these abuses they have supported in the past 10 years...you can almost lose a good year, and they are getting closer and closer to ending their careers. You won't win trophies with Mr. Goodman's team. Adding Deslauriers and Gudbransson, at least you will be a little tougher, and you can make your opponents... be honest with our star players. Gino had his best time...Read more »

You completely invalidated your comment. "You won't win the trophy with Mr. Goodman's team. We have been like this for the past 6 years." So is 16 and 17 just a dream?

Ancient history. The league continues to advance.

Kris's opinion is not whether '16 and '17 are applicable today, but that they happen to be 5 and 6 seasons ago. Given the literal success, it is extreme to say that the Penguin strategy "5-6 years" has not worked. (If winning the cup is not a success, then I don’t know what a success is. It’s weird to rewrite our own history and let us become bigger losers than us.) Penguin strategy has failed to produce results in the past 3 playoffs, But even 4 seasons ago, it was feasible. (Unless the cup is the only measure, which is reasonable,...Read more »

If this happens, Hooks Orpik will have a stroke! Mr. Senior Statistics!

Great article by Dan. Many Penguin fans agree that they need to be tougher. It doesn't make sense to me why they don't want stricter elements in the team.

When your core is so old, you can't play a role with 11 forwards every night. And since coach Sullivan doesn't use "dummies" guys, this is basically what will happen. Therefore, we will win some battles with the mob, but because we have 3 double rotations of 30+ centers, we are too tired. Lost, lost proposition...unless you change coaches.

Just to add some background information, as many Pens fans have subscribed, Reeves only played 5 minutes in Vegas per game

The point is that Reeves is there, if they don't need him with us. When we eat ice, they should play the jingle of MR SOFTEE

Reeves played 11 or 12 minutes per game last year, but only 27 minutes in the penalty area! When he put on the suit, his teammates were not robbed. Reaves will be more valuable than any 4th liner that Pens has used in the past 4 or 5 years. Pens, who will protect their aging star now? nobody!

Great article and Good Branson is definitely a tough D answer. When he was here, he and Peterson actually played well together, and if that was your third pair or Guds with Joseph, we were good. In the front you can get Brendan Lemieux from Los Angeles. When he has no problem with Wilson, he can hit the ball and stand up.

Don't confuse Enforcer with Goon, they are very different categories. We gave Ryan a cup of coffee, and I think he performed Godi Howe's hat trick at least once. Wilson is an antisocial thug who can skate and score. Wilson will try to hurt much smaller players, headhunting and doing all kinds of dangerous nonsense on the ice. I can't represent all the players listed, but Tinordi and Reaves are not thugs. For example, Ryan will fight anyone who wants to give up their gloves but rarely shows the intention to behead smaller enemies.

Maybe, but Reeves acted more like an anti-social thug when he attacked Ryan Graves in the playoffs last season. Although Reeves might think he was giving Graves in return, he crossed the bottom line and deserved more games than the two games he was suspended.

no doubt. .. This is a soft team. This is a small team with the same forward position and defense. I hope they do something that can bring some advantages, however. .. This fascination with Tom Wilson is getting out of control. First of all, he is a very good player. He is likely to be the top six forwards of any team in the NHL. He has good physical fitness and often lacks discipline. This is a rare factor. Somehow there are six teams preparing for him. So he...read more »

Let's face it, our new management is talking about a bigger/harder game, not their actions. This may be what we will get in the next two years (with our limited resources and salary space) The only answer.

Burke must have a high salary. I don't know why he accepted the job. So far, his role has been embarrassing.

Mostly agree. However, at this moment, Wilson is on the ice, never knowing whether it is 40% or 60%. When he interrupted ZAR's jaw in the 2018 playoffs, it was a serious intimidation.

On the other hand, when Wilson knocked Carlo out of the game last season, the momentum of the game was actually beneficial to the Bruins, and the Boston team eventually won the game with a backward advantage.

In any case, Pens needs a counter-attack strategy, not just trying to score in a powerful game that may or may not be subsequent.

When Zach Aston Ries leaves the ice, knocking him down without his attention is not a threat. This is a cowardly behavior, and this is Wilson's performance. Hockey is a sport. What happens abroad requires a real man and a woman in this era to face it.

Great post. You seem to be one of the only people here who feels anything. I'm tired of hearing that the Penguins are not strong. Lack of resilience is not the reason for their recent playoff losses. You can argue that since the Islanders ended up there after basically being defeated in the series against Pens, Pens will make it to the Eastern Conference finals with a better goalkeeper this season. I believe that the fans just hate seeing Pens lose the game in a check-out. It doesn't seem to matter whether you win or lose. Like a strong player...Read more »

Thanks Dan, another great article. The subway will be very tight next season and the Pens will be bullied as usual. There must be at least one physical D-man and one physical striker. Hextal should pursue Gudbranson, he is very suitable to partner with Petterson.

To be honest, when I think of tough players like Asham, Rutu, Lallack, Gary Roberts, I feel nostalgic, and even Downey is funny. Kasparaitis, Barnaby, Tocchet, etc.

If Tom Wilson is such a unique maker, "he even defeated the Boston Bruins..." then why did the Hats lose to the Boston team in the first round and in fewer games The Kojima team?

If all of this has to do with the regular season, and Tom Wilson is different... then why did Pens win the division... instead of Caps?

Tony C the Caps is as aging as Pens. It becomes more difficult to compete with a high skill level every night. Ovechkin is seeking to break records. Is his first task to break the record or raise a glass? Batting is part of the game. So they have Wilson without discipline. He was suspended once or twice for a total of 20 games, which is a quarter of the regular season. How does this benefit a team? I really don't care if the law enforcer is on the pen. A good check hit, or anyone dropping the glove will put any player in...Read more »

Pure talent and willingness to win with a pen

Tom Wilson is a psychopath, and he shouldn't even be allowed on the ice. "No, really, I didn't mean to break his neck. The blow is legal. I'm just playing games." But don't blame him, because the league has the responsibility to reduce reckless behavior, which obviously won't happen soon.

The fact is that with an aging core, a person who is not ready for training camp, and a few supporting players, the pen will have great and mediocre moments. Unless Pens’s young players can stand up and contribute at a higher level, Pens may make the playoffs a wild card, which surprises some fans and analysts. I don't remember seeing Pens seem to be intimidated by Wilson. Wilson likes all real bullies. It seems that when he is scrutinized by a smaller player, he will be intimidated. Watch a few games before calling...Read more »

I can't believe you forgot ZAR.

Dan, Tonodi has never done anything to Malkin! Gino slid directly into Tonodi. Did not protect himself, did not lower his shoulders. Strike and percussion is a skill that must be practiced. The perfect example is Tanev. Batting captain. There are no problems or injuries. His injury this year was the result of a hockey puck hit on his wrist.

this is a problem. Apply your days on the playground to the hockey field. How do you deal with bullies during breaks? Eliminate a factor in combat. Is this the key to the success of Pens this year?

Tom Wilson is Tom Wilson. It doesn't matter who is on the list. Letting a person sit on the bench as a deterrent and playing for 2-5 minutes every night is a waste of roster position.

They need the toughness of the team, not one or two tough guys who can't play. Just my humble opinion.

The Penguins added Dominic Simon. "Just play".

The NHL has always and will continue to celebrate the physical intimidation of even superstars, especially when the playoff whistle is gone. Kojima blatantly took aim at Gunzel (no puck and whistle) because they knew they would not award a penalty kick. Proponents of analysis often live in a vacuum far removed from the reality of playoff hockey. If the Rangers and Flyers enter the playoffs and achieve any success, the analytical communities that condemn these moves will lose considerable credibility.

Cool. So all the other teams in the division are getting worse, and Pens hasn't? I like!

Pittsburgh may be the worst in the division. ? Talk to me next April

Should the Penguins become healthier this offseason? When did it happen?
