Jaso's J198HPA first appeared on the Falcon Tower Crane booth at Vertikal Days

Spanish tower crane manufacturer Jaso launched the J198HPA hydraulic luffing crane, which debuted at the Falcon tower crane stand at the Vertikal Days trade show in the UK.

According to Jaso, this 18-ton crane is designed to meet the needs of high-lift booms in the 200 to 350 ton-meter range for high-rise construction in crowded city centers and other urban projects.

The J198HPA retains Jaso's iconic hydraulic cylinder at the rear of the tower, so when the crane stops in its out of service (OOS) position, the piston will retract completely. Jaso said this is the strongest position of the ram and will help extend its life.

The crane is designed to be quickly and easily erected by optimizing weight and maximizing pre-assembly. For example, the plunger is fully pre-assembled and equipped with electric and hydraulic quick connectors.

The hoisting winch is integrated in the boom, allowing the user to assemble the boom while it is still on the ground, thereby speeding up installation/disassembly and improving safety.

All platforms and handrails are pre-installed, adding to the stylish appearance of the crane. Jaso says that access has been optimized, which means that wiring harnesses are no longer needed when accessing control cabinets and main access points.

The weight of the crane has been optimized. The tower head/turntable is the heaviest part, with a total weight of 12.1 tons. However, the installation process is fully adaptable, as the weight of the component can be reduced to 6.8 tons if required, enabling the installation with a smaller auxiliary crane.

The complete upper part of J198HPA can be transported by three trucks, and the complete free-standing crane can be moved in five transport units.

The maximum load capacity of J198HPA is 18 tons, with a three-part configuration, the maximum tip load at 55 meters is 1.6 tons. It can also be operated in Direct Pull-only mode using a special thin wire hook block. In this configuration, its maximum carrying capacity is 6 tons, which can lift 1.8 tons at 55 meters.

Jaso said that through the two-part production line configuration, a variety of load chart options (maximum load of 8 tons, 10 tons or 12 tons) can be used, and they can be easily switched on site.

Starting from 30 meters, the boom can be increased in increments of 5 meters to a maximum boom length of 55 meters and a minimum OOS of 8 meters. The swing radius of the concrete (or optional steel frame counterweight) is 8.2 meters. The use of thin-wire steel counterweights, which can be reduced to 7.9 meters, facilitates further pre-assembly of the balance arm to speed up assembly and allows the crane to be closer to the building.

Tower, base and winch system

The new hydraulic model uses a standard 1.75 x 1.75 meter tower system, with sections of 12 meters, 6 meters and 3 meters in length, with a maximum independent height of 38.1 meters. In order to increase the height, the crane can be installed with a 2.16-meter tower system and a 1.87-meter tower for three-beam climbing.

The crane uses a cross-shaped base of 4.5 x 4.5 meters and 6 x 6 meters, the maximum hook height is 38.9 meters and 44.8 meters, and the boom length is 30 meters.

J198HPA is equipped with two 45kw hoisting winch packages, providing a maximum speed of 154 m/min and a 65kw high-speed hoist, providing a maximum speed of 227 m/min. The hoist drum can be specified for Lebus slotting, and an auxiliary hoist brake can be optionally equipped.

The crane is equipped with an Eco mode system that allows it to operate at 75% of the crane's full power (normal mode). In Super Eco mode, it uses 50% of normal power consumption. It allows cranes with larger lifting motors to work with smaller currents. This helps sites with limited power supply. Eco and Super Eco modes will reduce the lifting speed, but only when lifting. The speed of lowering the hook is the same as when working in normal mode.

The crane was shipped directly from the Spanish test to the Falcon tower crane stand at the Vertikal Days trade show in the UK. Falcon ordered a total of five J198HPA
