This weekend, the Dallas Stars announced that former Lightning goalkeeper Ben Bishop's NHL career ended due to a degenerative knee injury. The last time Bishop appeared in the NHL was during the 2020 playoff bubble and underwent meniscus surgery after the playoffs.

Bishop is on his way back to the NHL. During AHL training, Bishop learned that this was the end of his career.

Bishop has participated in more than 400 NHL games in 11 seasons, including five seasons in Tampa Bay. Bishop became one of the most successful goalkeepers in the past decade and one of the most important players in the history of the Lightning. Although he has never lifted the cup with lightning, his contribution should not be forgotten.

When his career in Tampa ended, Bishop became the record holder for almost all the Chargers goalkeepers before Andrei Vasilevsky's career took off.

Bishop arrived in Tampa during the 2012-13 season lockout. He was traded from the Ottawa Senators to Corey Conacher. In the season when the Chargers failed to make the playoffs, Bishop took charge of the team's defense to help consolidate the team's position.

Bishop won the starting position for the 2013-14 season and took the Chargers to a new level, allowing them to return to the game. As a relatively unknown goalkeeper, the 6'7 archbishop took over the job and never looked back. On his way to becoming the league's top goalkeeper, he helped the Chargers become a strong contender for the playoffs in his first season.

The timing of Bishop's appearance is important to the long-term success of the Chargers because he can help the young Chargers succeed early in their careers. Nikita Kucherov, Ondrej Palat, Alex Killorn and others have all benefited from the experience of entering the playoff team early in their careers.

Bishop performed well in some of the most important competitions, including the seventh of two matches on the road to the 2015 Stanley Cup final. Your best player must be your goalkeeper, and Bishop is often. When healthy, he is a dynamite goalkeeper, one of the topics of the league's top goalkeeper.

Perhaps his greatest contribution is to be a mentor to Andrei Vasilevskiy. Vasilevskiy was a first-round pick before Bishop reached Tampa Bay. Although Bishop dominated the crease, the young Vasilevskiy was able to gain experience behind Bishop, and because of Bishop's stable play, the Chargers were never forced to rush to develop Vasilevkskiy.

Bishop has always known that Vasilevskiy will eventually surpass him as the starting goalkeeper of the Lightning team, and Bishop has shown first-class and leadership throughout the entire process of working with the young Vasi. When Tampa Bay decided it was time to leave Bishop in 2017, Vasilevskiy was ready to take over the department after working for Bishop for three seasons.

Between his experience of helping the young Lightning core enjoy and the development of Vasilevskiy, given the organization's recent success, Ben Bishop's contribution should not be forgotten. Although injuries derailed his career, Tampa Bay owed Bishop a lot, and he gave the team everything he had, and then some.
